The Pacific Coast offers a wide range of opportunities for SCUBA diving. The coastal waters from just north of Los Angeles to Vancouver Island offer an astonishing variety of marine life. The west coast is also home to many inland lakes, rivers and creeks that offer excellent freshwater SCUBA diving sites.
The coast is divided into a North Coast and South Coast. The North Coast includes the west counties of California, Oregon, and Washington. The South Coast extends from just north of Point Conception, California to just north of San Diego.
Along the Pacific coast there are over 100 major dive sites. Many of these are either NOAA Naval Air Facility dive sites or have been designated as National Marine Sanctuaries by the US government.
In California, SCUBA diving sites include the Catalina Islands, Channel Islands National Park, and the Farallon Islands. There are many coastal dive sites along this coast.
In Oregon, SCUBA diving sites include the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge and the Humboldt County Dive Park. There are several offshore islands to explore as well as inland lakes that offer excellent SCUBA diving.
In Washington, SCUBA diving sites are limited by the volcanic islands in Puget Sound. These islands include Blake Island, Haro Strait, Lopez Island and Orcas Island.

The coastline has many fine dive locations that can be explored on a variety of scuba diving vessels. These boats range from single engine runabouts, small sailboats through large sportfishing vessels that have been updated to include an underwater viewing window. There are many reputable dive shops offering a variety of diving experiences.
Be sure your gear, your own or rented, is serviced and ready for a safe and fun diving adventure. And don’t forget about protection from the sun. Rash guards and dive skins should be included with your other gear.
